Most people know Allegiant for its low-cost airfare. Now the Las Vegas-based company is getting into new territory with its planned Sunseeker Resort development in Port Charlotte.

The resort, as currently planned, will include a hotel and up to nine condominium towers on 20 acres. Restaurants, bars and stores are also planned to fill out the waterfront development. "We never set out to just build a condo tower," Allegiant Travel Co. President John Redmond says.

Las Vegas-based Steelman Partners will be Sunseeker's design architect. Architect Paul Steelman leads the firm, and his previous work includes several resorts and casinos for clients such as MGM Resorts International, Hard Rock, Caesar's Entertainment, Sheraton and Hyatt. Redmond knows Steelman from Redmond's own time working in Las Vegas for companies such as MGM Grand Resorts, where he was president and CEO. "I reached out to Paul to get him on board early on," Redmond says. "I think he's a talent like no other."
