Paul Steelman Design Group Awarded Design of Nevada State Museum
Paul Steelman Design Group has been awarded the design of the Nevada State Museum by the Las Vegas Springs Preserve.
Located on the site of the Las Vegas Springs Preserve at Valley View and Meadows roads in Las Vegas, the facility will house the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society (NSMHS) on the 160-acre location.
Paul Steelman Design Group has designed a 75,000 sq. ft. building, which will feature 18,000 to 25,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space. Concept sketches include a double height "free zone" with a crystalline glazed exoskeleton structure beneath a wing shaped canopy. Additional elements include an auditorium, museum retail store, research library and permanent collection storage. Ground level space will service back of the house elements with the main museum level one floor above. The administration offices will occupy a third level.
The building local is adjacent to the original source of water for Las Vegas. An elaborate network of interpretive trails and exhibits allow the museum setting to extend beyond the walls of the museum structure. These new facilities will double the size of the Nevada State Museum's current location at Lorenzi Park. Collaborating on the project are members of Paul Steelman Design Group, Portico Group, Museum Staff with programming work by MGA.
A completion date is scheduled in the 1st quarter of 2007.
